TRANSATLANTICISM

media reviews! will be formatted like basically the same as the albums page but on this page ill include a star rating in case i think something sucks. keep in mind that none of these are that serious.

The Godfather

★★★★★ | 1999 | Directed by Francis F. Coppola

i dont think theres anything i could possibly say about this movie that hasnt been said a million other times by people way better at media analysis. it lives up to the hype though, its a banger. al pacino was fucking beautiful in his prime. very thought provoking movie. cannot fucking believe they did that to my boy michael though holy shit.

House of Leaves

★★★★★ | 2000 | Written by Mark Z. Danielewski

will i ever put a piece of media on here that i don't give four or five stars? anyways, house of leaves is probably one of my favourite books ever. top 3 at least. once you read house of leaves you'll see the influence it has in horror across all forms of media. from args to movies to other books the influence that house of leaves has had runs so deep. what a phenomenal and unique book, i have never read something that so seamlessly integrates the experience of reading a book into the act of reading a book. the way you read the pages, the way you interact with the book as a physical object, are all important to your emotional connection. the words and physical layout and structure of pages represent their content, overwhelming one moment (page) and completely blank and still the next. what a beautiful book, and i love how the house is used. if i could recommend one book to the entire world it would be house of leaves.

Fight Club

★★★★★ | 1999 | Directed by David Fincher

so good. this was a rewatch but man is it still such an amazing movie. not much to say other than its even better on the second watch, and that if you havent seen it yet, there's a reason its a cult classic, go watch it.

Across the Spider-verse

★★★★★ | 2023 | Directed by J. Santos, J. Thompson, K. Powers

holyyy fuck. like the perfect animated movie. i have basically zero gripes with it at all. might lower all my other reviews just to emphasize how good this movie is in comparison. i usually dont care for sequels n shit like i usually just watch a movie and then when the sequel comes out im like oh thats cool and then watch it. this is the first movie to make me actually like hella excited for the sequel. i fully understand the hype. like i was super ready to watch it and be like "eh pretty good but overhyped" but nah its not overhyped. amazing movie.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

★★★★☆ | 2010 | Directed by Edgar Wright

pretty good. the cgi is cool as hell with all the comic book shit. pretty funny, i get the hype. i watched Scott Pilgrim Takes Off first (which is definitely a weird way to do that) so i was already kinda familiar with the characters (and also was aware of how the plots differ) so it was a unique experience i think. overall good fun.
